So, I didn’t get a chance to blog about a band today (or technically yesterday) because I was busy all day with work, but I just wanted to let everyone know that this experience has truly been eye opening for me! Every day I am learning about a new band that I had not heard before. And additionally, pandora.com has been a big help. All I did was type in “God Is An Astronaut”. I mean, I knew there were other bands out there that existed and wrote similar music to this band, but I did not realize the vast majority!

Right now, I’m listening to the band Decoder Ring. I’ve never heard them before but I freaking dig them! And to make matters more interesting, the song is entitled “Rough Sex” haha!

As I always say at the end of my posts “Enjoy” or at least on the links on my facebook. I highly recommend you research beyond what I am doing. If you have a band that you would like me to highlight or focus on please feel free to let me know! I’m always willing to learn about new artists and musicians!

Band: This Will Destroy You
Description: Similarly to Explosions In The Sky, This Will Destroy you has extremely spatial music. They use synthesizers, bass, guitar, and drums. There are no vocals. One of their songs was featured in the trailer for The Taking of Pelham 123. Their music often puts me in a very pensive state. Great for meditation. They often use a verse-chorus type of scheme, where the verses are quiet and the choruses are explosive. Very moving!

Band: El Ten Eleven
Description: Combining many genres such as Indie, Experimental, and Funk, El Ten Eleven is an interesting post-rock band. They have upbeat songs with synthesized sounds using drums, guitars, and bass. There is only one guitarist and a drummer. The drummer uses an excessive choice of pedals and synthesizers to manipulate his instruments’ sounds. The name El Ten Eleven is derived from the name of an airplane, the Lockhead L-1011 Tristar.

Band: The Album Leaf
Description: The Album Leaf is on the softer more “philosophical” side of post-rock if you will. They use synthesizers, pianos, strings, guitars, and drums. The songs are very open and have slow and long progressions. Really soothing! In my opinion, this band is definitely a thought provoker! Most of their songs have no vocals, but some of them do.

Band: God Is An Astronaut

Description: GIAA has dark tonation in their music. They use synthesizers, guitars, and drums. There are no vocals. In my opinion, they really take every note and use it to tear at your heartstrings. Many of their songs can become quite emotional even with no vocals and lyrics.

So I’ve dedicated this blog to Post-Rock music!

What’s Post-Rock? you say…

Well…

P0st-Rock music is a genre that consists of atmospheric sounds using guitars, bass, drums, keyboards, and often is vocal-less. The music is often very dramatic and pulls emotion out of someone very easily.

I plan on devoting this site to new artists of the Post-Rock genre that I find as well as some of my favorite musicians in this genre!
